The Oleso Briquet Story
The year was 2003, and our founder, Oleso Was in Nairobi with his girlfriend, now mother of their children Briquet walking around a local a market looking for a pair of local sandals to compliment that local Savannah Summer look, that goes so well with the season. They found a great looking pair of hand leather crafted thong sandals with cowrie’s shells and Maasai beadwork and brought it home to America with them after their vacation. The workmanship was top notch and that pair has lasted a long time.
At home, friends of the couple were impressed by the pair of sandals and wanted a pair for themselves. They tried looking for similar shoes in local San Diego stores but the shoes could only be found in Nairobi.
Soon it was 2006 and Oleso was back in Nairobi. He brought back to the United States with him a bag of shoes for their family and friends. All were happy with their pairs. Before long their friends of friends wanted pairs of their own too. And So Oleso began importing a few pairs for friends.
In a little while Oleso was selling to more and more friends of friends and to men who wanted something unique for their mothers or beloved, and at that point, he decided to formalize it. Oleso Briquet Footwear brand was born.
